Links to blogs, old and new…

I’ve just added a new page to this blog – my portfolio.
Realistically though, perhaps it should be called “my ever-growing list of blogs”. Almost everything on the list is a blog. There’s a link to my ad network, my now-defunct CMS, and my e-book containing my best blogging tips. But that’s all the non-bloggy stuff I have. I do have my music site, which is – surprisingly enough – music-focused. It does have a blog though, so it straddles the gap.
Alarmingly, I still haven’t finished installing WordPress on all of the domains I’ve bought recently. I won’t do them all, but I have a few more blogs still to come. A few sites won’t be blogs at all – and some are moving from Injader to WordPress. It’s a manual process to move the posts over though – I don’t have a script to make it easier. Even with a script, I’d still need to go back through the old posts and tidy them up.
The reason for all this?
I want to hone my writing skills. I want to try some different styles, different types of content, and spread my knowledge and interests across a number of clearly defined and well-focused blogs.
I have loads of writing ideas, and I really do need a lot of blogs to cover them all. Putting them all on one blog would create one “mega blog” that wouldn’t be very focused, and would have a lot of posts that only appealed to a small group of people.
If you’re wondering how I’ll come up with so much content, rest assured I have hundreds of blog posts that I plan to write. I also have loads of posts that were salvaged from the wreckage of the blogs I’ve closed or relaunched, when deciding to wipe the slate clean and start over. These will be a getting a new lick of paint, and will show up in a more appropriate location than the dumping ground my blog has become over the years.
In fact it’s the feeling that I dump any old stuff on benbarden.com that has made me relaunch it numerous times. Now, I’m just going to dump my thoughts here for you to untangle, while the serious or useful stuff will go on one of my other blogs.
There are a few blogs on the list that you might not have seen before, or that you may remember from when I first set them up a year or two ago. Two old blogs – Zen Working and Weekly Blogging - make a reappearance. I’m also expanding my list of technical blogs, as a way to organise some of the things I’ve found to be poorly catered for around the web.
I’ll even be bringing back my old poetry, which has not been online since 2008. I last referred to my poetry as “experimental writing”, as a few people pointed out that most of it was not actually poetry. With the introduction of my new writing site (which is not yet online, but will be soon), my earlier written works will be referred to as verse. I may also write some prose.
So, not such a cynical post for today, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something in the week.
