Why should I be interested in a site subscription?
Subscribing to a site allows you to keep track of new content. If you didn't subscribe, you'd have to keep going to the site to see if there's any new content. This isn't an issue unless you start to read a lot of sites. Subscribing allows you to see new content across all of the sites in one place. How do I find out if I can subscribe to a site?
Have a read of my guide, What is RSS and why should you care? This explains what RSS is, how it can help you to keep track of many different sites, and how to subscribe to a site in your browser. Are there any other ways to subscribe?
Absolutely. There's a tool called a feed reader that allows you to subscribe without using your browser bookmarks. Very useful if you use multiple computers or you're on the move a lot.I recommend Google Reader - check out my Google Reader guide for an explanation of how to use it. There are other readers, but if you're new to this, I'd suggest that you give Google Reader a try first.
What benefits do I get?
First and foremost, subscription is a convenience. The ease with which you can check sites for updates using a feed reader should be the only benefit you need. However, some sites give bonus content to their subscribers. I do this from time to time. Subscribe and you'll get to see the bonus content in addition to the usual posts I put on the home page.
