What motivates you to change your site design?

< Quick Tips: Use heading styles | Unsorted Posts | ProBlogger interview: Replying to comments >

From time to time I think it's a good idea to tweak your layout, reorganise things a bit, perhaps do a big revamp every now and again.

Have you reached the point where you think it's time to change how your site looks?  How long have you been running with your current design?

What other reasons are there for changing how your site looks?   Can a site outgrow its design?  Does the site owner get sick of it?  Do you routinely change your design to keep things fresh?

I have different reasons for changing my blog. Usually though, I just get bored with looking at the same old layout, and start browsing through WP themes. I like new eye candy. Not really a good reason for change, but I've always been a proponent of change for the sake of change ;)

When I first started blogging (using bloggers free platform) I was constantly tweaking and changing the appearance (and changing the template). I think because I really wasn't happy with the overall appearance of my blog.

The thing is too many changes can upset readers. It's one thing to tweak here and there but I think major changes should be kept to a minimum. I enjoy the familiarity of a blog when I read it regularly.

I think with our own blogs, we see them so much more and get sick of them so much quicker than everybody else.

However, I'm constantly tweaking my sidebar and shifting things around a bit.

I love a good fiddle and tweak and change of look. And it's the same with my blog ;)I change it when I get bored I guess.

If I have fiddled enough with my blog, I have been known to attack pother peoples.

Since I started with the Nocturnal Blogger, I only changed my site design twice. I think I just got bored with the previous design and it's high time I choose a new one.

But the theme of the design is still dark because of my blog's title. It's important to me that my site has a unique look. :)

I have changed a couple of times in the last few weeks. I have been trying to improve the overall look of the blogger template and feel of the site. I think it's time I moved on though and yes Ben I am interested in using your Injader system! I have a lot of questions though! :D

Do you have an email address where I can contact you directly or a yahoo id?

A few more questions to think about...

Do you change your design for you, for your readers, or both?
How do you balance "you can't please everyone" with "you don't want to annoy too many people with a bad design"?
Or does it not worry you at all?

PS: Sarah, I emailed you.
