If you visit my home page, you'll see things have changed a bit. Let me explain the details, and the reasons for this.

Top 10 Blog Tips

As the top 10 lists have been so well received, I've decided to give them their own blog: Top Ten Blog Tips. I've already moved the posts across.

Why WordPress?

You'll notice the new site uses WordPress (and Zen Working does too). This does not mean the end is nigh for Injader, not by a long shot.

I believe that some sites are better suited to WordPress - specifically, blogs without any additional content. Other sites are better suited to Injader - namely, those with content that goes beyond a blog, especially business sites.

Once the next version of Injader is ready, the vision I have for Injader can start to become a reality. I have big plans for Injader.

The fate of benbarden.com

This domain and its predecessor (bbarden.com) have a few years of history, and the focus has shifted several times. It's basically a personal site that I've shoehorned into a blog. I don't think it really works.

My site is going to shift its focus once more, but this time it will return to my personal site with a greater focus on my music.

However, I should mention that the current design is likely to come to a screeching halt once the new version of Injader launches, as the theme system is being totally rewritten. It's just easier to migrate my site if it doesn't require hours of extensive template work (my site is heavily customised and a bit of a mess, to be honest).

The Blogging Guide

As for the other content on the site, the Blogging Guide contains loads of tips and tricks, and there are over 100 posts in the Unsorted Posts section, which I'll be organising at a later date.

Many of the blogging tips will be rewritten for either Top Ten Blog Tips or Weekly Blogging and republished in a new format. The benbarden.com forums are going to remain, as they are a good way to bridge the gap between my three blogs (don't forget Zen Working!).

Advertisements and Entrecard

Apologies if you placed an ad at benbarden.com just before I took the ads down. I hope you will consider placing an ad at one of my other blogs. My Entrecard account for benbarden.com will remain for a day or two, then it will be deleted. I have already set up the Entrecard widget at Top Ten Blog Tips.

Is this goodbye?

I don't plan to keep a blog at benbarden.com anymore, but I now have three new blogs for you to subscribe to. I hope you will follow me on at least one of those blogs. All that's left to say is a very big THANK YOU to everyone who's ever read my blog, posted a comment, subscribed, emailed me, placed ads or dropped a card.

And those blogs just one more time...

See you at the blogs, or in the forums!

Yeah! What she said. :)

Why would you go with WordPress instead of something else? How can you support your biggest competitor in CMS's?

I did answer that point above. I will also say that while Injader is not going anywhere, I am not promoting it for the time being. I need to finish the new theme system and get a few other things working before I go any further. Whenever someone came to my blog and complained about the CAPTCHA not working too well, it reflected badly on Injader.

Injader and WordPress are very different. The main difference is that WordPress is trying to be everything to everyone, while Injader is not. Injader has a long way to go yet, but for sites that have a blog with no additional content, it's unlikely to be the best choice. Sites that want more, such as galleries, downloads or a simple forum built right into the site, those will do better on Injader. Also, business sites that don't want to use a system that feels "bloggy". I have a number of people interested in Injader for this reason.

It's not supposed to be an alternative to WordPress for your blog. It's a different kind of system. I use WordPress for Zen Working and Top Ten Blog Tips, and I use Injader for Weekly Blogging and benbarden.com (or what's left of it - it'll be changing soon). Weekly Blogging has already attracted some attention for its newsletter-style format and I have a few ideas for how to organise the archives. It's not a typical blog.

I still have plenty of work to do on Injader, but it would be easier to do that work before promoting the system. If I promote it before the new theme system is released, for instance, people will lose their customisations when they upgrade. This isn't a good idea so it's better for me to get on with the development work and promote it later.

And finally, you can't compete with a system that you don't use. I need to look at the pros and cons of WordPress, I see some good stuff but I see a lot of things that have to be customised after the install that I think should be set up by the installer. That's one area that I'm working on and it will make it a lot easier to install Injader, install a theme, and just USE it. Instead of spending days installing plugins.

I agree with Laura, BB is so easy to remember. But I never can remember the author's name......
